Bil Vernon awarded Companion of Auckland War Memorial Museum medal
Bil Vernon, the founder of Vernon Systems, was honoured this month at Auckland War Memorial Museum’s Museum Medals ceremony. Bil was awarded Companion of the Auckland War Memorial Museum for his service to the museum sector.
We are proud of Bil’s achievements. He has been a mentor and supporter to many of us over his 20 year long career in the museum software industry.
Laura Stedman joins our team
Laura Stedman has joined the Vernon Systems team to work as a part-time agent for us in Australia. Laura’s company, Levoi Consulting, is based in Melbourne. Laura has extensive experience with Vernon CMS having previously used the system at Australian Ballet, Australian Centre of the Moving Image, Heide Museum of Modern Art and the World Rugby Museum (UK). Laura is available to provide online and on site training in Vernon CMS.
She’s a welcome addition to our team and will help share the travel load with our Documentation and Training team.
Ariel Liu heads off on maternity leave
We wish Ariel well for her maternity leave. We’ll miss you Ariel!
Naomi Boult moves to Auckland Museum
Sadly for us Naomi will be leaving us to take up the role of Project Collection Manager at Auckland Museum. We’re glad to see that she’ll be helping the Museum get the most of Vernon CMS.
Australian, NZ and UK Vernon User Group meetings
We have had great interest in our annual user group meetings, with each of the events near capacity. The Australian user group meeting training was fully booked particularly early this year. We’ve added a second training in Melbourne and this is now also full.
Conferences: Vernon Systems National Digital Forum NZ conference in November
User Group Training Days: Our topic for this year is system maintenance.
Vernon Browser 3.3
We have completed the latest upgrade to Vernon Browser. This adds a few new features and updates our generic example templates with features previously available on customised client sites.
Vernon CMS Version 10.0
Work on version 10.0 is now wrapping up. Beta testing has been completed and we’re finishing off the last changes to the documentation. The release date is October 31st (you need a new version for Halloween right?).
Hagley Museum & Library: Using barcodes with Vernon CMS
Recording location changes can be a time-consuming, and at times imprecise, process when handled manually. Vernon CMS has built-in support for printing and scanning barcodes providing an excellent alternative to manual data entry. We talked with Hagley Museum and Library to see how they’re making use of barcodes with Vernon CMS.
The Vernon Escrow flashdrive for this quarter is in secure storage. The barcode label is V051264.
