About the demo system
If you are taking the Vernon CMS Online Course, or doing certain types of in-person training, you will need to use the Vernon demo system to practice and do assignments. The demo system is filled with sample data to simulate a variety of different collection types. We use this during training so that you can practice and play around in it safely without risk to your real data, as it is separate from your live system.
You can also install and use the demo system as part of our software demonstration.
Vernon CMS runs on Windows computers. You can access it from a Mac by using Remote Desktop Connection and connecting to a Windows computer.

- Log on to your computer as an Administrator user.

- Once it has downloaded, double-click on the Setup.exe file to begin the installation. You may get a Windows popup saying that it is an unrecognised app. Click More Info then Run Anyway or Yes.
- When asked for an install location, choose somewhere local on your computer. For example, C:\Wincoll.dmo.
- When asked to choose components to install, keep the default* selection.
*The default selection will be different if you already have a copy of Vernon CMS installed. If there is already a copy on your computer, the VCMS Client Setup option will not be checked. If you check the VCMS Client Setup option when you already have a copy of Vernon CMS installed, the shortcut will be overwritten to point to the demo system.

Other installation options
The demo installer can be run in Silent mode (for automated desktop deployment) by adding the following command line arguments, where installDir is the location to install to. This will install all components.
/S /D=”installDir”
There is also a No Client option. Use this to prevent the installer removing existing Vernon CMS shortcuts:
/S /NOCLIENT /D = “installDir
