Organisations for Museums

Professional bodies exist around the world to foster the museum community and provide guidance and assistance in all areas of the museum workplace. Many of these organisations are specific to a particular region or country.

Data Standards

Standards are required to ensure data is structured in a consistent way, facilitating reliable reading and searching by users, and communication between systems. Standards provide the basis for sharing information.

Vocabularies

Vocabularies (also known as authority lists, thesauri, pick lists or term lists) are carefully constructed lists of terminology that are used in cataloguing to ensure consistency. Vernon Systems has worked with a number of different authority lists.
