Embedding 3D images and media from external sites within Vernon Browser

Vernon CMS supports links to external web pages from all key record types, including object collection records. By using the associated External File Category field, you can clearly mark what kind of content is expected from that web page. Examples of specialised web content pages include Vimeo and Youtube video pages, Sketchfab 3D files, and Soundcloud audio files.

Many web platforms provide their own embeddable players or viewers for the media files their platform stores. For example, Sketchfab provides a viewer to zoom, pan, and rotate 3D files stored on their website.

If these web pages are linked to the object records in Vernon CMS then the links can be published to Vernon Browser, and the object detail page in Vernon Browser can be customised to display the appropriate player when there is related content.

Here’s a list of all of the objects on the Historic Environment Scotland website that have Sketchfab 3D files available: https://www.historicenvironment.scot/archives-and-research/archives-and-collections/properties-in-care-collections/highlight/3d

The Historic Environment Scotland site is built using their own web CMS.

Here’s an example from the British Red Cross’ Vernon Browser site. They embed audio files from Soundcloud:
