Kia ora koutou,
It’s been a busy and wonderful year in the Vernon world. We’ve really appreciated your support and participation in our Vernon User Group meetings, as we were able to travel to Sydney and Christchurch, as well as our annual online meeting. It’s a privilege to serve the GLAM community and we are amazed at the work you do to preserve history, showcase your collections, tell stories, and engage the public.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to all the new collections who have started using Vernon CMS, including:
- Adelaide Festival Centre
- Bayside City Council
- Burnie Regional Museum and Gallery
- Geological Collections, University of Auckland
- Manly Art Gallery & Museum
- Shrine of Remembrance
- TarraWarra Museum of Art
- Toronto and Region Conservation Authority
- Victoria Racing Club
Meri Kirihimete me te Hape Nū Ia (Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year)! We are looking forward to doing great things together in 2025.
Moa bones and massive museum moves amaze at online user group meeting
Our annual online Vernon User Group (VUG) meeting was held in October and featured presentations from several institutions in New Zealand and Australia about diverse topics – everything from entire museum collection moves and fossil accessioning to archaeology artefacts and managing risk and hazard information.
Explainer: Images in Vernon CMS
If you want to add an image to an Object record, the image must have its own record in the Photo/Audio-Visual file.
Your Object record connects to the Photo/Audio-Visual record through the Object – Photo/Audio-Visual References window.
This article explains how to add images to your records, import and link images in bulk, store and name your images, and fix broken image links.
Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums conference
Our UK staff member, Alex von der Becke, attended the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums conference last month as an exhibitor.
One of the more interesting presentations was delivered by the Harlem Gallery of Science who discussed their travelling exhibition, ‘Video Games: the Great Connector’. This emphasised how today’s young people use games in a positive way.

Queensland Parliament Collections
Queensland Parliament’s heritage collections tell stories of the formation of Queensland’s identity as a state, and provide insight into the priorities and values of their early governments. In embarking upon the gradual digitisation of these collections, they intend to open these opportunities for learning and reflection to the broader public, for whose benefit they have been collected and safeguarded throughout their 164-year history.
SDC Textile Collection
The SDC Textile collection houses over 50,000 artefacts which tell the story of colour, its people, innovations and the history of The Society of Dyers and Colourists. They are just beginning their journey of cataloguing their collection and encourage you to visit frequently to discover their latest additions.
