Several smaller museums in Marlborough are working hard to improve the cataloguing of their collections. We partnered with National Services Te Paerangi to hold an eHive workshop in Blenheim.
Museum staff and volunteers gathered at the beautiful new Marlborough Library on 17 June to learn basic and advanced areas of eHive.
We had great representation from the Marlborough area, with participants from Edwin Fox Museum, Flaxbourne Museum, Havelock Musuem, Marlborough Art Gallery, Marlborough Museum, Motueka District Museum Trust, Picton Heritage & Whaling Museum, and Renwick Museum.
The workshop was organised by Jacqueline Godfery, Sector Services Officer at National Services Te Paerangi, and Liz Ward, Manager of the Marlborough Museum, in response to the sector’s need for a collection management system that is simple to access, easy to use, cost-effective, and scalable.
We particularly like that eHive links to Digital NZ which will enable our collections to be accessed even more widely.

In the morning, people learned about getting started with eHive, cataloguing, searching, reporting, and much more. After a well-deserved lunch break, people returned to the Library ready to practise using eHive, with support from Penny Collins from Vernon Systems. Many questions were raised and answered, and we discovered opportunities to improve eHive.
It was wonderful to meet people and make connections, and we hope the enthusiastic momentum of the day will serve the sector well into the future.
