Vernon Browser 3.3 has just been released. This version includes several new features and some changes to our generic templates to showcase features built in some of our projects.
You can see the latest version in action on our Vernon Browser demo site.
New features include:
Tag clouds
Vernon Browser can present any field as a tag cloud on your collection site. The most popular terms in the selected field are presented as links to provide a quick way to access common sets of records. The individual tags used for each record can be displayed in the same style on the record detail page.
Tag clouds work well on fields that use a standard set of terms, such as subject categories, classifications or place names.
Links to related sites
Web links can be added in the External File field on the record in Vernon CMS. These can be published as clickable links on the Vernon Browser site.
Email your shortlist
In Vernon Browser you pick items you’re interested in and add these to your own shortlist. In the latest version you can email this list. The email contains links back to all of the selected records.
Improved lightbox view
We’ve updated the default layout for the lightbox view so that images of different sizes stack neatly together.
Display images for related records
The display of related records can now automatically include the images of the related records. For example, an artist page can display the works made by the artist or an archive series record can display the images for the items linked to the archive series.
Share options
We’ve added integration with a popular social media sharing tools to make it easier for visitors to share a page on sites such as Facebook and Pinterest.
Upgrading to Version 3.3
Hosted sites running on version 3.x will be automatically upgraded. This is one of the benefits of hosting through us. This will provide access to bug fixes and new configuration options in the administration pages. We can assist sites running 3.x on their own server with updating the software and templates. Let us know if you’d like any further design changes based on the new features.
Sites running on version 2.x require further development to make use of the mobile-friendly templates in version 3.x.
